No Dogs in Borough Parks

Recently, new signs have been erected in our Borough Parks to remind residents and visitors that dogs are not allowed in these public facilities. Keeping our parks clean and safe will make them more enjoyable. We ask everyone for their cooperation in this matter.

Clean up after your dog, it’s the law!

   FIRE                              HYDRANT FLUSHING

Our DPW crew will be flushing fire hydrants this month.

On occasion, as a result of hydrant flushing, residents may experience low-water pressure. To correct this problem, simply remove faucet filters, clean and replace.

Should you notice brownish-colored water running from your faucets, keep the faucets open until the water runs clear.

Please place bundled brush at the curb on the evening prior to collection day, small twigs will be accepted if placed in a rigid container (no bags will be accepted). Bundles should not exceed 6’ in length or a maximum of 50 pounds. The diameter of the branches cannot exceed 4”. There is a maximum of 5 bundles per household per week.

Planning Board Meeting

Dear Residents of Netcong,

On behalf of the Council, Borough Administrator and all the employees of the Borough of Netcong, I wish you a very Happy and Healthy New Year.

We are pleased to present the Borough’s first annual Netcong Calendar.  In the calendar you will find important municipal dates, holidays and information regarding Borough services.  Given these tough economic conditions we also included free events offered by the Borough Special Events Committee, our Recreation Committee and the Netcong Community Partnership (NCP).

As Mayor, I try to attend as many of our in-town events as possible and I am pleased to see so many of you in attendance.  It is my personal goal in 2009 to invite all of you to attend one of the Recreation Commission’s Concerts in the Park, or stop by the NCP Farmer’s Market to purchase the freshest vegetables our New Jersey farmers have to offer.  If you have not attended Netcong Day in recent years or you missed our 1st Annul 5K Race, I hope to see you there in 2009.

2008 was a great year in Netcong and we plan to have an even better 2009. I invite you to log onto the Netcong Borough web site at www.netcong.org and look for updates to our 2009 events and learn more about what is going on in our great town. While visiting our web site, I encourage you to sign up as a member to receive our periodic “Email Blasts” that remind you of important dates and other current events.

Again from our Netcong Family to yours, we wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Thank-you,

Joseph A. Nametko

Mayor

RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATIONS

Construction permits are required for most building projects and improvements. Depending on the project, a Zoning Permit may be required as well as a Building Permit. Before beginning your project, or signing a contract with a contractor, it is best to check with the Construction and Zoning Departments to confirm if a Construction and/ or Zoning Permit will be required for your project.

ZONING PERMITS are required for any expansion to a house footprint (deck, porch, room addition) or the addition of structures (pool, fence, shed, patio). The Zoning permit Application requires you attach a copy of your property survey detailing the location of the proposed project, including the proposed distances to the property lines. Contact Barrie Krause, Zoning Officer, to determine if a Zoning Permit will be required for your project. Once the Zoning Officer approves your application, it will be forwarded to the Building Department for permits.

BUILDING PERMITS are required for demolition, new work (construction, plumbing and electrical), and most replacement or renovation projects. Check with the Building Department before starting a project. Contact Barrie Krause to determine the Permits needed for your project. Once your project is completed, call the Building Department to schedule a final inspection and obtain your Certificate of Approval or Occupancy.

COMMERCIAL & RENTAL PROPERTY

Owners of Commercial and Rental Properties should check with the Zoning Officer before starting a project.

A Zoning Permit will be required for the project. In addition, the Zoning Officer may need to refer the application to the Planning Board for approval.

Renovations and replacement work will need Building Permits from the Construction Department.

A Land Use Board Application is required for all Site Plans, Subdivisions, Amendments to Site Plans, Site Plan Waivers, variance requests, and Conceptual Reviews. Contact the Planning Board Secretary for an application.

CERTIFICATE OF HABITABILITY

Renting or selling?

You are required to obtain a Certificate of Habitability when you are selling your home.

Contact the Zoning Department for a Certificate of Habitability application. Cost $35.00.  Inspections are done Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

For residential rental properties, Landlords are required by New Jersey law to register all rental dwellings with the Municipal Clerk’s Office.

In 1923, Father Edward Farrell bought the Mission House Hotel on the corner of Main St. and Maple Avenue (the present site of the Quick Check parking lot) to convert into a school house. The renovated first floor held three classrooms and the second floor had a fourth classroom and a chapel. The four Benedictine sisters, who came from St. Walburgas Convent in Elizabeth to teach at the school, lived on the third floor. Sister Mary Irene was the first principal of St. Michael School.

In 1945, the parish welcomed the sisters of Christian Charity from Mendham, who replaced the Benedictines. They worked tirelessly to build up the school and helped to oversee the construction of the present St. Michael School building which opened its doors in September 1958.

This year, 85 years from the founding of St. Michael School in downtown Netcong and 50 years in our present building, we continue to respect and carry on the years of tradition St. Michael School has given to the community and the Diocese. As the recipient of Star School, we are confident that we will continue this tradition and fulfill our mission as educators and members of the Church.

RECREATION EVENTS

SUMMER CONCERTS IN THE PARK

The concert series began in the year 2000 at DiRenzo Park, Dell Rd. as a summertime pastime. Each year, the concerts grow in variety and number.

We always welcome our friends and neighbors from surrounding municipalities. Also included at the concerts are surprise servings of hamburgers and hot dogs as well as several “ice cream” nights for our concert attendees.

The Netcong Recreation Commission would like to thank the Mayor and Council for continuing to sponsor this community activity, as well as other recreational events throughout the year.
