Updated Garbage News

December 30, 2022

Beginning January 1, 2023, the Borough of Netcong will no longer be using Gaeta Recycling for solid waste disposal. Instead, the Borough has entered into a shared service agreement with the Township of Mount Olive for the delivery of Solid Waste disposal services. This agreement has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings for the Borough over the next five years. The switch has also resulted in some changes in the way solid waste pick-up will function in the Borough of Netcong.

Solid Waste

Solid waste will still be picked up once per week on Fridays. If your garbage is not at the curb when the trucks get to your house Mount Olive will not come back just for your garbage, so please ensure that your garbage is out at the curb by 5:30am on Friday mornings. For your convenience, Borough Code allows cans to be placed at the curb after 6:00pm on Thursday evenings.

Bulky Waste

The price of bulky waste stickers will remain the same, but the process for putting something out will now be a little bit different. Mount Olive will pick up two (2) bulk items once per week on Fridays after regular solid waste is picked up. Be sure to purchase any bulky waste stickers before 12 noon the day before pick-up. Metal items such as Dryers and Refridgerators will only be picked up on the third Friday of each Month.

Garbage Cans

In the summer of 2022, the Borough amended its code to require that all garbage be put out for collection in proper receptacles, not just plastic bags. So far, the Borough and the garbage collection service have been lenient with the enforcement of that code, but that will no longer be the case. Be sure to have solid waste put out in a proper garbage receptacle or Mount Olive will not pick up your garbage.

June 2, 2022

The Borough of Netcong recently amended its code to require household garbage to be stored in metal or plastic cans with lids (garbage receptacles). Residents can no longer store or place garbage out for collection in plastic bags. Please be advised, effective immediately, garbage will no longer be collected if it is not in a proper garbage receptacle.

When stored outside, garbage receptacles are to be stored in the rear or side yard, and not closer than 10 feet to any property line. Receptacles are the responsibility of the property owner.

All other garbage collection dates and regulations are unchanged and will remain the same.
