Garbage Cans

Solid Waste Can Info Sheet

Netcong’s garbage collection contract with Gaeta Recycling expired on December 31, 2022. When the Borough went out to bid, the lowest and only received bid was from Gaeta Recycling, but it was a 79% increase from the previous contract. Regrettably, this increase is consistent with what other municipalities in New Jersey are experiencing. Because of this increase, the Borough sought out a shared service agreement with the Township of Mount Olive which resulted in an increase from the previous contract but only by 42%, and it secured an extra three years of service.

One part of the savings was an agreement beginning in 2024 and beyond for the Borough to require that garbage be disposed of in “One-Arm Bandit” Otto Rollout Carts. Effective January 1, 2024, the garbage company will not pick up garbage if it is not in the proper garbage receptacle. The Borough of Netcong and Township of Mount Olive have worked together and acquired the grant funding necessary to provide the garbage cans to the residents free of charge. Residents will be provided ONE can, but in 2024 you will have the option to request to purchase an additional can from the Borough. By default, all residents will be provided a 95-gallon can; however, we understand that a can that size may be unnecessary or inconvenient for some of our residents. That is why we are giving you the option to request a smaller can in the form of a 65-gallon can.

If you would like a 65-gallon can instead of 95, please fill out the survey below by August 21, 2023. If you do not by that date you will be given a 95-gallon can.  PLEASE ONLY FILL OUT THE SURVEY ONCE. If you are unsure whether or not you have already submitted a response, please email rproctor@netcong.org or call (973) 347-0252 x118.
