FY2026 CDS

The Borough of Netcong is applying for Congressionaly Directed Spending (DCS) through Senator Cory Booker’s office to acquire land suitable for a municipal parking lot and pedestrian plaza to provide downtown parking relief.

The proposed project aims to acquire a vacant parcel of land adjacent to the Borough’s downtown district to construct a municipal parking lot and pedestrian plaza with a small pocket park. This project enhances parking accessibility, thereby catalyzing economic growth and also provides recreational facilities to residents within our community that are largely low-moderate income and separated from such facilities by highways and railroad tracks.

The proposed project benefits the Borough’s community by:

Expanding Parking Capacity: Netcong’s existing parking facilities are insufficient to accommodate the growing demand from residents, visitors, and businesses. The redevelopment project will increase parking capacity to alleviate congestion and enhance accessibility to local establishments.

Improving Infrastructure: Aging parking facilities require significant upgrades to meet modern standards of safety, accessibility, and environmental sustainability. The proposed redevelopment will incorporate state-of-the-art infrastructure to ensure a seamless parking experience for all users.

Enhancing Aesthetic Appeal: A well-designed parking facility can serve as a gateway to the community, leaving a lasting impression on visitors and residents. The redevelopment project will prioritize aesthetics, landscaping, and pedestrian-friendly features to create an inviting environment that complements Netcong’s character.

Supporting Redevelopment Initiatives: Netcong is actively pursuing various redevelopment projects aimed at revitalizing underutilized spaces and attracting new businesses. Adequate parking infrastructure is a fundamental prerequisite for the success of these initiatives. By investing in parking lot redevelopment, we aim to provide the necessary support for existing and future redevelopment endeavors, fostering a vibrant and sustainable local economy.

This project benefits all residents of the Borough of Netcong, as well as the Main Street businesses and their visitors. This project will also especially benefit those residents who live in the new 34 Bank Street and Crown Walk apartment complexes and the surrounding areas with new recreational facilities in their neighborhood.

The Borough has previously applied for funding for this project to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, but was denied due to ownership statud of the property. Please click the link below to view attchments and supporting letters and documentation from that application.
